Strong adherence and respect for a royal family and Buddhism, mean the people generally follow what they are told and taught. There are of course contradictions between the modern and tradional world more often seen in urban rather than rural contexts. Phallic images of huge penises adorn the traditional homes, surrounded by animal spirits; Gross National Penis. Slow development, and fending off the modern world, television only introduced ten years ago, the lack of intrusive tourism, as tourists need to pay a daily minimum entry of $250, ecotourism for the rich, leaves a relatively unworldly populace, but with very high literacy, good health service and payments to peasants to not kill wild animals, or misuse forest, enables sustainable development and protects the country's natural heritage. Whilst various hydro-electric schemes, cash crops including apples, pull in import revenue, and Bhutan is helped with aid from the international community. Its population is only a meagre 700,000. 124 imagesEric, Ikuko and Yulis Lenté pictured in their "passive home" with enough wood to comfortably heat their home for ± one month during winter. They only need to use wood when there is no sunlight for a period of several days. Even in winter cold of -10 degrees, the sun's rays are sufficient to heat the ultra-low-energy house. A "Maison Passive", Les Yvelines, near Paris, France. Home of Eric and Ikuko Lente and their children Anakin and Yulis. Only need ten small sacks of wood to help heat the house over a whole winter period, otherwise the house is heated by the sun's rays through the windows, and is virtually self-sufficient. Windows are triple glazed and doors triple stepped for optimum insulation. Hot water is made by natural convection roof panels through solar water heating. The house uses so little energy that the family sells electricity from solar panels€2000 to the grid. The house is entirely insulated and covered in wood inside and out. Flat roof is covered in Sedum plants for ecological, insulative and drainage. All solar, heat exchange and water controls are easily accessed inside the house. The term passive house (Passivhaus in German) refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling. Passive design is not an attachment or supplement to architectural design, but a design process that is integrated with architectural design.

50 images"JOSEPHINE POUR LA BEAUTÉ DES FEMMES".

85 imagesThe Freegan Pony is an alternative restaurant housed in a squat. It was founded in 2015 by Aladdin Charni with three other collaborators. The restaurant specialises in cheap vegetarian cuisine, serving meals which guests reserve a place through a Facebook group, paying €2 a meal. The restaurant meals contain unsold and donated food, collected from wholesellers at the Paris Rungis vegetable market. The Freegan Pony is located at the Porte de la Vilette on the outskirts of Paris, at the entrance to the peripherique outer circle motorway. Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. Freeganism is the practice of reclaiming and eating food that has been discarded. People who attempt to live an ethical lifestyle by reusing trash and rubbish thrown away by others. Freeganism is an ill-defined activity and is a subset of the larger anti-capitalist and environmental protest movements. It embraces alternative, anti-consumerist lifestyles. Freegan practices also include co-operative living, squatting and "freecyling", or matching things that people want to get rid of with things other people need

150 imagesBlooming Green Flowers Kent. General views across the flower farm Jen is the owner at 'Blooming Green Flowers'. She runs the farm with her partner Bek. Blooming Green Flowers is a British flower farm is near Marden Kent, south of Maidstone, not far from London. Wedding parties come to collect their flowers, typically on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning. In the summer, on Friday afternoons families, everyone, from the very young to old come to pick flowers. Cost £10 a container. British local flowers, grown nearby, count for around 10% of the UK market, traveling less than a tenth of their foreign counterparts which are often flown in from abroad. Nearly 90% of the flowers sold in the UK are actually imported, and many travel over 3000 miles. Local flower farms help biodiversity, providing food and habitat to a huge variety of wildlife, insects including butterflies, bugs, and bees. Often local flower farmers prefer to grow organic rather than using pesticides. British flowers bloom all the year around, even in the depths of winter, and there are local flower farms throughout the country. Many people like the idea of the just picked from the garden look, and come to flower farms throughout Britain to pick their own for weddings, parties and garden fetes. Others come for the joy of a day out in the countryside with their family. Often a bride and her family will come to pick the flowers for her own wedding, some even plant the seeds earlier in the year.

An Amazonian tribal chief Almir Narayamogo, leader of 1350 Surui Indians in Rondônia, near Cacaol, Brazil, with a $100,000 bounty on his head, is fighting for the survival of his people and their forest, and using the world’s modern hi-tech tools; computers, smartphones, Google Earth and digital forestry surveillance. So far their fight has been very effective, leading to a most promising and novel result. In 2013, Almir Narayamogo, led his people to be the first and unique indigenous tribe in the world to manage their own REDD+ carbon project and sell carbon credits to the industrial world. By marketing the CO2 capacity of 250 000 hectares of their virgin forest, the forty year old Surui, has ensured the preservation, as well as a future of his community. In 2009, the four clans and 25 Surui villages voted in favour of a total moratorium on logging and the carbon credits project. They still face deforestation problems, such as illegal logging, and gold mining which causes pollution of their river systems
