Eastern European shops in Smethwick. Birmingham voted narrowly for Brexit, whereas many of the outlying areas voted strongly to leave Europe. Birmingham is well known as a multi-cultural city, which has traditionally welcomed refugees from all over the world, having for many decades communities of Caribbean, Irish, Polish and Asian peoples.
