Roma Kosovar refugees, escorted by Carabinieri and Customs police, set foot on dry land after a gruelling 40 hour voyage by Mafia boat across the Adriatic from Montenegro to Italy. They are the luckier ones, who have a new life ahead of them in Western Europe, they were lucky not to have drowned en route, like many of their compatriots, Brindisi, Italy. Summer 1999
