  • VOLCANO AFTERMATH, Philippines. Aeta and Igorot indigenous peoples. Central Luzon, Mount Pinatubo volcano erupted in 1991  and caused massive destruction of urban and rural landscape. Many indigenous  Aeta and Igorot people were displaced. White volcanic  ashes settled and disfigured the landscape. Democratic self determination by native peoples, voting with the support of the United Nations MINUGUA. Guatemalan Communities of popular resistence who had lived far from mainstream society, in autonomy, in the mountains, these people had fled their native lands, escaped from the likes of the dictator Rios Montt, whilst many others had been assasinated during the 36 years civil war, thousands who disappeared never to be found again.<br />

Ningun sector fue mas afectado por la violencia durante los años de la Guerra civil de Guatemala que la poblacion campesina de ese país centroamericano. La guerra dejó en el campo un saldo de muertes y destruccion sin precedentes, generando entre otras reacciones la fuga masiva de miles de campesinos guatemaltecos. En el período 1981-82, en el que más de cuatrocientos pueblos y aldeas fueron arrasadas y miles de guatemaltecos asesinados, la reacción de los sobrevivientes atrapados entre dos fuegosNota 1​ fue huir, o ponerse bajo el control del Ejercito forzados a participar en las Patrullas de Autodefensa Civil (PAC) o reubicados en las «aldeas modelo», en donde fueron concentrados. Unas cincuenta mil personas totalmente desposeídas se escapo a zonas selváticas del departamento del QuicheNota 2​ pasando esos años escondidos del mundo exterior y fuera de control gubernamental.
